WNA3100M adapter stuck on "detecting adapter"

I purchased model # WNA3100M wifi USB mini adapter. I installed the Netgear genie software on my computer, inserted the USB adapter in a USB port, and I clicked next. It says "detecting adapter" but it doesn't do anything else except stay stuck on "detecting adapter".

I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. Hoping someone can help me 😊

    1. What is the OS of your computer?

    2. What driver version did you use to install the adapter? Did you use the CD or from support site?
