Thanks, but it did not work. Still stuck on amber. I've had it just a couple of weeks and it has never worked properly. Does anyone have a suggestion for a betterand more reliable brand of extenders? Thanks.

I believe the extender model is reliable, the issue is that your particular device has never worked properly (even before the firmware update).
If you've only had it a couple of weeks, you probably should be able to exchange it for a new one with the seller. I'd try that first. If that isn't possible, then you could use netgear support ( via my.netgear.com).
