Boosting Wifi Signal Question

Hello,

I need some advise regarding boosting a wifi signal between two houses.

I live next door but one to my parents in a mid terrace house and I'd like a good wifi signal there from my router so they can use my laptop to do video calling with the rest of the family.  At the moment the wifi signal is quite low, intermittent and drops out on occasion.

Part of the reason for this is that when I removated my house I put in thermal insulation with a foil backing so I'm guessing this is going to have a negative impact on the wifi strength not to mention the 9" solid brick walls...

The wifi signal is very good internally in my house I must add.  I have a BT HomeHub5 router positioned next to the front window which is why some of the signal can get out and to my parents bay window in the front of their house.

So, I'm looking for advise on a suitable signal booster which my parents can sit in their bay window and provides a signal around their house.

My initial thought was a AC1200 Wifi Range Extender but as I investigate how these work I am left with more questions.

If a range extender essentially re-transmits its signal how does it deal with a weaker signal in the first place.  If a device is trying to connect to a router with a low wifi signal how will a wifi extender be any better? Am I looking at the wrong device here?  Are there any other options?

Thanks

how far is it? Have you investigated using a point to point system? Netgear has Airbridge but there's plenty of other systems out there.

Much better for broadcasting wireless distances.

The distance between mine and their front windows (which is the best location for a signal to exit and enter) is no more than 10m.

I like the sound of AirBridge but looking at their specifications, it appears you'll need line-of-sight which is an issue as there is a house in between us.

      Nice idea though :)

The house in between is going to be an issue with extenders or point to point.

Point to point might still be the route to go but elevate it. for 10m, airbridge might be overkill. there's cheaper alternatives.
