Can not get internet connection with N300 modem router combo

To all, first off, not a computer wiz here but need help.

Here is the situation, have been running all of our internet devices off a Comtrend Modem and then through a Linksys wireless router. All has been working fine until last week when the modem started showing red on its "No internet connection" light.

Unplug the power for 30 seconds and turn back on and it gets internet connection again. Well, at first, it did this only once or so every other day or so but it has increased now until it happens MANY times a day. Decided that since it was a simple turn on and off thing to get connection again, had to be a problem with the modem.

Went and bought a new Netgear N300 DGN2200v3 wireless modem/router combo.

Go through the set up process, plug the N300 in, let it all get set up and the red light for "No internet connection" comes up.

Start the Install Genie and it comes up to the screen that says something like searching for internet connection or something similiar and thats where it ends. Never goes past this screen. We have left it on for days and nothing.

WHAT GIVES!!! Need this internet connection for my home business and this is giving me fits. Again, not a computer wiz so need help in simple terms, The light that says its connected to the internet is green, the computer sees the wireless signal and its full strength, just NO access to the internet and have no idea how to correct this.

Using windows 7.

Please help.
