cannot open https website?

Hi

My PC cannot open sites that starts with https when the PC is connected to the extender with wire. Doesn't matter which 3 browser i use.
When that happen, I always had to reboot the extender. That gets very annoying.

My extender is connected through the netgear nighthawk router wirelessly.

Os there a way to fix it without having to reboot every single time?

  • Did you get a resolution on this?

I have a service ticket open for an issue that is somewhat the same. I have two EX6200's, one that has a PS3 hardwired to it. If I reboot the EX, the PS3 can sign in to the Playstation Network fine, but if I turn off the PS3 for longer than 6 hours and turn it back on again, the EX won't allow the sign in...unless I reboot. The PS3 works fine if I connect directly to my router by hard wire or if I use the PS3 wireless.

My other EX has an HTPC attached, and if I reboot, everything works fine. If the HTPC goes to sleep, after 6 hours or so, it won't connect to certain websites (Netflix, YouTube....)

The EX's DO allow me to access my media server on my LAN even when these problems exist.
  • Lanaber,
I still have an open support ticket with NETGEAR support. I have been able to document the issue as it occurs every 2 - 3 days and only with secured website (https). I have sent several packet captures to show how the traffic is being stopped. I have take my PCs, bypass the EX6200 and connected directly to the router to verify that I can connect when the traffic is dropped by the EX6200.

Are the websites that you connect to secured? Can you connect a computer to one of the EX6200 to see if you can access these websites, banking websites when the issue occurs?
  • jmyaz,

I have my laptop set up through the EX now. As soon as it happens I will see which websites are affected. PSN is one of those affected, and it blocks my Netflix, but I will try the https to make sure.
  • Doesn't seem to happen with my laptop, as I don't set it to sleep...It does happen with my HTPC that does sleep after 4 hours, blocking various https and streaming sites when it wakes up!
  • While working with NETGEAR support I found the issue to be with the wired connection and not the wireless. I was able to reproduce the issue by connecting a laptop to the wireless EXT network, verify I can reach HTTPS website, then plug in a wired connect to the EX6200, disable wireless and verified I could no longer reach the same HTTPS websites. I repeated this process several times to verify.
  • That makes sense as to what I am seeing too. My laptop connected via wireless has no problems, same with the PS3.

The wired connection is blocking something.

I sent my config file to Netgear to replicate my problem.

    Now we wait....
  • I have EX6200 connected to the R7000 and I did not encounter this problem. I disable the wireless adapter and connect wired to the EX6200 and HTTPS access works fine.
  • I worked with NETGEAR support and they were able to reproduce the issue. They sent be a beta firmware which I applied and with the unit being up over 20 days without any issues, I believe it has resolved my issue. I am not sure when the new firmware update will be released for GA. It took awhile to resolve but I am happy it has been finally fixed. :)
  • @ jmyaz - Glad it is working on your end.
For others who have the same issue contact NETGEAR support to get the beta firmware as well.
