Cannot ping WIFI extender EX2700

i have a Netgear EX2700 (N300 wifi range extender). At random, I can no longer ping it from my PC which is connected to my wireless router (AT&T Westell wireless router). I can connect to the range extender using www.mywifiext.net and see it and see the device that is cabled to the extender via cat5e cable. I cannot ping the extender from my PC however. It has worked in the past - no setting changes at all. this has happened before and I have no idea why at random it can no longer be reached from my main wireless router. Please help!

    I will also note that my main router has Wi-Fi MAC Filtering disabled. I have a static IP address assigned to the range extender. I have restarted the main router and the extender several times. The extender can ping the router if I connect to the extender directly but not vie versa.
