Note that the problem in that post isn't about AP mode. It's about network isolation - a security setting in some wifi devices that prevents wifi clients from connecting to each other. The EX2700 doesn't do that, even if it is in AP mode. Are your chromecast control device (phone or whatever) and the chromecast itself both connected to the same band on the extender? Try connecting the control device to the 2.4 ghz network.

Thanks for your reply. Yes the Chromecast and the device (my tablet) are both connected to the extender. When you say try connecting my device to the 2.4ghz network, do you mean try connecting it to the main router? It says the signal is likely to be bad, which is why we've got the extender. Am I misunderstainding you?

I was thinking of a dual-band model that have both 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz extender networks. So that suggestion doesn't apply to you. When you connect the tablet to the extender network, are you able to reach the internet?

Ok. When you say 'When you connect the tablet to the extender network, are you able to reach the internet?' Are you asking if I can use the internet on the tablet when I connect to the extender, rather than the main router? If that's what you're asking, the answer is, yes I can. It works fine.

The Chromecast also connects to the internet for some things, so I wanted to confirm that wasn't the issue. It should be working, I don't have any other troubleshooting ideas at the moment. Hopefully other posters will chime in.

I had the same problem with a WiFi extender, and what ultimately fixed it was just plugging my Chromecast into an outlet instead of the TV's USB port for power. I have no idea why that made a difference.
