Connect Nighthawk x6 EX7700 to another EX7700 via ethernet
Hi,
I have just successfully extended my network by connecting an X6 EX7700 to my Nighthawk R8000 using the App and wirelessly (1 x2.4ghz network and 1 x 5ghz network).
I have re-connected an existing ethernet cable running downstairs from the EX7700 to our smart TV. The router is upstairs, as is the Extender. The Extender happens to be in the room where the ethernet cable runs downstairs. The router was there, but I had fibre installed recently, into a different room and it upset the wireless reach. The TV was previously connected by ethernet.
However, to improve the wireless reach downstairs, I am wondering if I can put another EX7700 onto the end of the ethernet thats currently in the Smart TV? The plan would be
- Office upstairs - R8000 connected to fibre from street
- Bedroom upstairs - EX7700 (1) wirelessly connected to R8000
- Bedroom upstairs - EX7700 (1) to ethernet through floor
- Lounge downstairs - EX7700 (2) to ethernet from EX7700 (1) in bedroom upstairs.
- Lounge downstairs - Smart TV into ethernet port in EX7700 (2)
Will this work or does each EX7700 have to connect back to the router? If it wont is there another device type that can sit on the end of the ethernet coming out of EX7700 (1)?
Thanks
Eric
It'll work but the EX7700 thats hardwired in would need to be in access point mode and not extender mode. Otherwise it won't setup when hardwired in.
(but its smart roaming functions get disabled in AP mode).
Usually if people are needing a mix of hardwired connections and more than 1 extender, we recommend they move to a full mesh system like orbi or the mk nighthawk. I'd also recommend the triband versions over dual band
