Connecting NETGEAR Range Extender
Hello,
I have CenturyLink as my interent provider with a ZyXEL C1100X modem/router. Things work great for the most part. The problem I have is my Home Theater (Marantz NR 1603). It will ONLY accept a Wired LAN conenction. I thought about running an ethernet cable the 100 ft
from my office to family room, but there is no easy way to do that without causing serious ripping into drywall and the like (the house was built in the mid 80s). Since I get a good signal from my ZyXEL, I was looking into a WiFi repeater.
I have an older WPN824 I was considering to use, but i read on this discussion board that this is not a good option and that an N300 Wi-Fi Range Extender would be a better choice. I observed it has an ethernet port on the body of the unit. Can I use the ethernet port to connect a Cat-5e cable between myMarantz receiver an the Wi-Fi extender to access such services as Hulu and Netflix? If not, would would be a better and inexpensive solution?
Thanks

Yes, you can connect your Marantz to the extender with Ethernet. If you have other Wi-Fi devices that you also want to use, then the extender could be a good choice.
OTOH, if your sole purpose is to connect your Marantz to the network, then you can also consider a media bridge. Netgear calls them Gaming & Home Theater Adapters.
If you have a coax line near your Marantaz and your modem, then you can also consider MoCA adapters. Actiontec is the main player in the MoCA arena.
Finally, there's Powerline.
