connectingtwo netgear wireless routers

I have a netgear N600 router, a wmdr 4300 N750 netgear router. i have roadrunner and have the roadrunnermodem,, connected to that is the 4300 n750. I have that set in my main part of house. I have 2 desktop computers in basement. one is a dell the other an apple mac desktop. I was wondering if it were possible to put my N600 router downstairs so that the dell has better and faster wireless. or if i can hook the dell up wired to the N600 and run that seperately or at least a wired setup. THanks for your help

    Hi jojo57,

That is possible. The n600 and the n750 both have wireless repeating function so they are compatible to each other.

If you will put the n600 in the basement and enabled it's wireless repeating function, it will pick up the wireless signal coming from you main n750 router making it go online.

However it's not plug and play.

You need to undergo troubleshooting first like exchanging MAC addresses of both routers and setting a static IP on the n600 with the same range as your main n750 router ip address.

  • If you can use Ethernet cable between the two then use AP mode on second unit in the router GUI

AP mode in the GUI uses Internet port out to existing LAN and disable firewall

If you are looking to setup two router wirelessly then I do not recommend as security will be WEP/54Mbps or no security

    Use extender like wn2500rp
