No. If its hardwired router--->extender, you'd need to set it up in access point mode and not extender mode.
What router is it connected to?
Did you set it u using wps, the installation assistant, or the app?
I usually recommend the installation assistant.

It is connected to a nighthawk rax80. I do not want it as an AP because i do not want two separate networks.when i installed the extender i go through the web interface.

How big is the home?
How far from the router is the extender?
Are you using dfs channels on the RAX80? Might be worth setting the speed down to "up to 2400mbps" to limit usage of DFS channels.
what are you interior walls made from? (certain materials block wifi better than others)

My house is about 2600 sq ft, the router is upstairs and the extender is downstairs. They are about 25 feet apart with no direct line of sight. The walls are standard sheet rock. Not sure about dfs , where is that set?
