EX2700 and http://www.mywifiext.net/welcome.htm highjacking default homepage and tabs

After setting up my EX2700, updating firmware and clearing the cache (as had been suggested on another thread) when using my laptop my EX2700 extender is still highjacking my homepage - so instead of seeing google when I select my homepage iam re directed to http://www.mywifiext.net/welcome.htm

When I attempt to then open a new tab in IE Iam again re directed to http://www.mywifiext.net/welcome.htm

If I open a tab and instead manually type in a web address then the connection does not load, though http://www.mywifiext.net/welcome.htm continues to work fine in its window.

Before I go get my 40 euros back from the FNAC store any last ideas what may be causing this issue ?

  • BEWARE the new Netgear extenders have malicious (but legal) re directors who hijack your default homepage setting.
  • http://www.mywifiext.net/welcome.htm, this website has stolen my IE default browser address and always redirect me here to. So irritating. All this **** after trying to install NETGEAR WIFI RANGE EXTENDER...............WHY? and how to get rid of it? Hope it is not too much of a thing to ask for a bit of help, I m not that much into computers. So far the installation of the extender has been a failure.
  • This also affects me. Works just fine for about a couple days then I get redirected to the same page asking me to reconfigure the device. My dilemma is that this is coming from another computer on the network and not the one that is being bridged. So it obviously does have a connection to the network and does not need to be reconfigured.
  • I too had this annoying problem after installing the EX2700., Every time IE was opened, instead of displaying my home page (Google) it would attempt to login to the EX2700 management. If my laptop was not connected to the EX2700's Wi-Fi network, a page not found message would be displayed. If the laptop was connected to the EX2700's Wi-Fi network, the EX2700 management login screen would appear. Netgear Support was not able to come up with a solution and I couldn't find one on the web. I went to the trouble of setting up Firefox as an alternative browser and started using it. I then had one final try at fixing the IE problem, and lo and behold happened upon the solution. I clicked the arrow next to the Home icon on the IE Command Bar, clicked Remove, clicked on http://www.google.com.au and thus removed it. I then went into Tools\Internet Options and re-entered www.google.com.au and hey presto, the problem was fixed.
