EX6130 Choosing SSID

Hi. I just bought this wifi-extender. In the quick-guide it says: "Note: We recommend that you use a different network name (SSID)
for your extender from the network name (SSID) that your router uses."

I have used my exsisting SSID and it seems to work ok. Do anybody know why this recomendation is given.

Best regards from Arild

  • Hi again.

Reason its recommened is some devices won't roam and will stay connected to their original device they connect to. If you set different ssid's you can choose which device to connect to for that location. Here's an article (about half way down) with a little more details on the benefits of seperate ssids.

    https://routerguide.net/wifi-range-extender-best-setup-guide/

It has gotten better with fast roaming standards but I still prefer seperate ssids unless I'm running a mesh network.

If your current setup is working and you're not experiencing slow speeds/disconnects/other issues, I'd probably leave it as a single ssid. But if it changes or issues crop up, then I'd probably seperate them.
