I think I solved the problem by giving the router a fixed wLAN channel (48) and the repeater another (40). Haven't had this issue since.
I see the same thing happening on my router as well. The extender is set to be a static IP but the router shows it as a dynamic IP. This is one of the issues I have been having. The rest you can read under the topic R7800 and EX7300 network issues.
