I'm not entirely sure what you're asking for so I'll describe the two ways Ethernet can be used with an extender.
- Internet====Router====Wi-Fi====Extender====Ethernet====Wired Device(s)
All extenders support this. - Internet====Router====Ethernet====Extender====Wi-Fi====Wireless Device(s)
Only extenders that support Access Point (AP) mode support this.

Oops...missed the important part of that question.
...using SAME SSID. I know enterprise products can do this with a bit more complex set up obviously and many times with a controller device.
In the case of my R7900 and EX7000, the EX7000 has different SSIDs than the base station.
When I tried to tie together two R7000 Nighthawks, it wanted encryption turned off to use both as a base/repeater setup. Who the heck would want an open wireless network?

Hello Technolocloud
What wanted the encryption turned off it should let you password both of them.
