"Fastlane" mode - Why can't I just extend a 2.4GHz band into a 2.4GHz?

I've extended the network of my Linksys EA6100 through my EX3700 AC750 (apparently your model list doesn't have it yet. It's NOT a N600, says AC750 on the front, but EX3700 on the back and on the bottom).

I'm wondering, since I'm trying to solve performance issues on my network...

Why on EARTH does the Fastlane technology only allow 2.4GHz to 5GHz and 5GHz to 2.4GHz. Why not just dedicate it all on one band to the same band?
