Half speed even with Fastlane?
Hi. I have a 6150v2 range extender, configured to use Fastlane. It connects with my router using 2.4GHz (wireless N) and with my devices using 5GHz (wireless AC). When I'm connected directly to t...

Hi Geochron, thanks for the reply.
I just tried turning off fastlane and using "basic mode", but the results are basically the same. Maximum speed is about half of when connected directly to the router. Curious that it's twice as fast for you, I wonder if anyone else is getting faster connections with fastlane off.
My results:
Phone directly connected to the router - 80Mbps
Phone connected to extender with fastlane ON- 35Mbps
Phone connected to extender with fastlane OFF (Basic Mode)- 35Mbps

Note that distance and obstructions from the extender plays a great deal into how fast the connection speed is. My Netgear ex7300 can do 1300 mb/s but realistically does more like 866 across the room. That real world speeds of ~170 MB

Hi, thanks for your reply.
I understand that, that's why I'm performing these speed tests with the extender close to the main router, so I can have an exact reading of its maximum performance.
Same question stands since I first posted this topic: does this Fastlane mode Netgear sells as "ideal for HD Gaming and HD video streaming" bring any real benefit for real life usage, or is it just some marketing jargon to convince people they're buying some kind of wifi mesh system that won't have the usual 50% loss in speed most wifi extenders have.

Hi,
I've just got an EX7000 extender and have been playing with Fastlane.
Tried it all ways (2.4Ghz to modem & 5Ghz to devices & other way or just basic mode of both frequencies to moden & devices).
I think that as soon as you use 2.4 Ghz, it'll slow down a 5GHz device.
I got 80Mbps with an iPhone 6 connected directly to the modem (standing next to it) and then connected to the EX7000 5GHz WiFi, I got 60Mbps standing next to the extender.
That's a 25% loss and connecting to the extender on 2.4GHz is much slower again at around 21Mbps.
