Half wifi speed via EX3700 than direct wifi

Hi

Just purchase WiFi Range extender becasue my desktop does not have a WiFi receiver. Seating in the room where the WiFi Range Extender is connected I get half wifi speed when connected to the extender than when conneted to the main WiFi source. Firmware updated. 2.4GHz network.

Wired connection speed from my desktop to the Extender is similar to wifi speed from my phone to the main source.

Any advice?

Average of multiple speed measurements:

Phone to Main Wifi: 45

Phone to Extender Wifi: 29

Desktop to Extender (wired): 47

  • That's expected. here's the reason why.

Extenders have to recieve a signal and then retransmit it. And it has to do it with the same chip in standard extender mode. This means the bandwidth gets cut in half and the latency is higher than a direct connection.

this can be mitigated somewhat with using fastlane on the dual band extenders or going with a triband extender. Fastlane and tribands reserve a radio just for router---extender communication.

Again, in standard mode, that's how extenders work. They're great for extending distance but they do so at a speed/latency penalty.

      Thx.
Luckily it does not affect me much as I only need it to connect my desktop. But if i wanted to improve the speed on wifi should i set fast lane to receive on 5Ghz and emit on 2.4Ghz?

Try both routes and see which works better. Its pretty easy to swap which one acts as backhaul and fronthaul.
