Help w an extender please

Hi
My internet router and wifi was all setup and for some reason it dropped out and I’m starting again. Router is up and working however I can’t get the extended up and running. I watched the ‘how to video’ however the wifi extender does not come up under my avaibable Wifi options to allow me to connect, any ideas? Thanks so much in advance, technology is not really a strong point...
