Is the EX7000 a WIFI range extender or is it an AP?

I need a new range extender after the last storm we had blew out half my network and many other things.  I think the EX7000 is the one for me BUT I get two different sets of information on the Netgear site one shows it as an AP and how to hook it up to your router with a ethernet cable and another lists the EX7000 as a WIFI range extender.

What is this thing an AP or an Extender?  Where do I get the real information about that device?

It is very confusing.

Can someone help as Netgear has not responded at all.

  • It can be both depending on how you set it up.

If you set it up with a hardwired connection back to the router you set it up in Access point mode.

If you set it up using wireless as the connection back to the router, you use extender mode.
