Mesh network recommendation

I upgraded to a C7800 Nighthawk cable modum/router and have been having diffuculty getting a good wifi signal to one area of my house. I added a Netgear extender which helped a little bit, but still plagued with dropped signals and extended buffering. I am thinking a mesh network my resolve the problem. I am seeking recommendations for a mesh network that would not be cost prohibitive.

I apologize if this question has been asked already, but I could not find it. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  • Thank you for all you guidance through this process. I such I now know what I need to do! I will shop for the tri-band, as recommended.

The C7800 does have modem only mode. Or you can setup the orbi devices to it with orbi running in AP (access point) mode.

Either route prevents a double nat situation. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

I'd recommend the tri-band orbi kits. They have a couple dual band kits but I haven't been impressed with them. The tri-bands reserve 1 of the 5ghz bands just for router----satellite connection and tend to have faster speeds/stability.

What speeds do you pay for?

What speeds do you get with the c7800?

    How big is your home?

What are the interior walls made of (certain materials block wifi better)

What orbi kit are you looking at.

Thanks for responding to my inquiry.

-I am supposedly paying for 100 mbps

-I am getting 17-19 mbps download and around 5-6 upload with my C7800

-House is two-story 4500 sq. foot wood frame home with drywall.

-I haven't picked out a specific Orbi kit, as of yet and I will mention that I am not that well versed in wifi networks.

-I am supposedly paying for 100 mbps---the goal is first to get the C7800 to that speed hardwired. It has a great modem in it so it shouldn't have any issues hitting 100mbps (or even 1000mbps) if working properly on a good line.

-I am getting 17-19 mbps download and around 5-6 upload with my C7800----is that hardwired into the C7800 or wireless? if wireless, what device and band are you testing on?

-House is two-story 4500 sq. foot wood frame home with drywall.---thats a sizeable home. I'd recommend at least a 3 orbi kit if you go with orbi AC and not AX.

Do you have a screen snip of your cable connections page?
