My browser keeps directly taking me to the NETGEAR genie after I have successfully set it up.

I found the problem and was able to fix it! The problem was that I had an extension for Google Chrome that automatically directs me to a website just like the NETGEAR genie does. Simply disabling the extension fixed the problem, but that also means that whenever I tried to enable the extension, the genie comes back. I don't really don't know exactly why it was the extension that was the problem, but at least its not a problem anymore. I hope this helps anyone who has a similar problem. Oh, and the extension is called 'Tab for a Cause'. Its actually a really cool extension and I highly recommend it but if you get this problem when using it, now you know why. Same thing just happened to me. How do I know if it is communiting with the Base-station

In this particular case I suspect that the extender might not be communicating with the base station, so accessing the extender admin pages as described in the manual should allow you to check the connection status.
