2700, the point was not having to reset my equipment. If I am required to have a password and ID to utilize the mywifiext.net , shouldn't there be an option in case the password/login doesn't work? When your password doesn't work on the phone you some reset the phone, you recover the password... last Netgear product I roll ever use...

I don't see how the smartphone is any different. If you forget the code to unlock your phone, how do you recover it without resetting the phone?
The password is stored on the 2700 and nowhere else, so you couldn't ask Netgear to email it to you. I wouldn't want Netgear to know my password nor would I want them to email it because email is not secure.
So, what option would you prefer to recover from a forgotten password? Do you know if another brand of networking gear provides it?
A reset button is a tried and true recovery method because you have to be physically present to push it. It's inconvenient to lose the settings, but that a small price to pay for forgetting the password.
