You can program each of your devices to connect to either or both Wi-Fi names. If you program both, the device will usually try to connect to the stronger signal. If you roam about, then the device may automatically switch to the other Wi-Fi connection, as necessary.
Many devices, however, are pretty sticky about holding onto an existing Wi-Fi connection, even if a stronger signal is available. In some cases, it's possible to walk next to the transmitter of one Wi-Fi network and still be connected to the other Wi-Fi network. That's often a sign that the extender is too close to the router, but you obviously don't want to move the extender too far away where it can't maintain a good connection to the router, so there are tradeoffs to consider. An extender is the embodiment of a bunch of compromises, so set your expectations accordingly.
