Hey StephenB,
Thanks for the info! It is a free standing garage. The signal from the router is good and all lights are green. She told me that it started working fine today so I’m not sure what the problem was. Can you send me the name of a couple of apps I can use to check the signal strength in her apt?

Unfortunately you can't find anything on iOS, since Apple doesn't give the right information in their normal API. There are some apps that graph connection speed, but that's not the same as signal strength. https://iphonebyte.com/wifi-signal-strength-meter-apps/
With Android, I suggest using Netgear WiFi Analytics. There are some others listed here: https://bestforandroid.com/wifi-signal-apps/
