Netgear Powerline 1000 PL1000 - wifi access failing

Hi - My Netgear Powerline 1000 booster has worked fine I then got a new modem.  Now I cannot get any devices (ipad &iphone) logged onto the signal despite that all the LED indicators are showing gree...

    Ok, i have got it running. I started from the beginning again, I replaced all cables, did factory reset on modem and netgear and got the ethernet cable to computer and netgear working, range extender is now also working. I don't really know what I did, but thanks Stephen B for your input.

Have you tried a different LAN port on the new modem?

 

Also, is the link LED light on the modem port?

Thanks for your suggestions. Yes I have 4 Lan ports and tried them all. Also lights on the modem port is lit when the cable is connected , but they do flicker. Same issue persists.

Any further suggestions will be appreciated. My Modem has a new network name and password of course. Do I need to allow/authorise access (somehow) to the netgear expander to connect to my modem?

    Normally not, since it is connecting over ethernet and not wifi.  Though if your new modem is set up to use mac address filtering (blocking unknown devices from connecting), then you should probably try turning that off for now.

    Just to be clear - the Link LED for the router LAN port that is connected to the PL1000 is lit?

     

    Also, have you tried connecting a device to the PLW1000 (wifi module's) ethernet port, and see if that connects?

      Hi StephenB

       

      Yes, the LAN port is lit when cable plugged in. When I try to connect via ethernet port, both directly modem to my Mac and Mac to the PLW1000 plugged into the wall socket I get the following on both occassions

       

       

      Status: connected

       

      Ethernet has a self-assigned IP address and will not be able to connect to the Internet.

       

      Configure IPv4: Using DHCP

      IP Address 169.254.205.196

      Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0

      Router:

      DNS Server:

      Search Domains:

        Ok, that is a clue.

         

        Can you open CMD on the PC, and then enter 

        ipconfig /renew

         

        That might get you an IP address.  If it doesn't, you could try assigning a static IP address to the PC.

         

        Once you have a valid IP address for your network, try pinging the router.

         

        It is of course possible that one of the modules has failed (still giving you an ethernet link, but not end-to-end connectivity).
