netgear wifi extender question
i can't put in the associated product field this extender it will not stay there.
i have a netgear router/modem model c3700-100nas and i have out in my back garage 2 ewelink plugin wifi plug type switches the i use to turn on remotely my furnace and to control a camera that sometimes needs to be reset by turning it off and back on.
i have a netgear extender model wn3000rp that i would like to put in the back garage and have it connect to the router and the be able to get those ewelink switched to be seen thru that netgear wifi extender.
so correct me if i'm wrong but i thought if i got that extender to connect to my router side of my modem that i would get strong wifi when i'm in the area of that extender? and if that is true then my ewelink switches should see that extender and i should see those switches on my ewelink app. is that a fair assumption?
if that is true then how do i connect that extender? when i plug it in now i get power and extender status and the wps lights on but i do not get the pc/ewelink switch or even phone to extend traffic light to turn on. if i go into my phone connections and manually connect to the extender that light comes on but i get no internet. so that tells me the extender is still not connecting to the router.
so is this extender really capable of seeing wifi devices and connecting them to my router and then i can see those devices thru my phone? if it is capable of doing this then is there a YT that shows how to do that?
thanks

that extender is not a mesh extender. So when you connect it and setup its ssid, you need to setup the other switches to connect to it and not the router.
They have to be programmed/configured which ssid (name) to connect to
ok i may have it now. i reset the extender. powered it up it turned on the device light and then the wps light. so i unplugged the lan cable from the pc and connected to the ext and entered password and up popped a netgear router type page and that talked me thru the setup. then i connected again to the extender and i got the red screen. so i used my phone to get into the router settings to allow the pc. the pc came on and i was on the internet using the extender.
so i took it to the back garage and plugged it in and the lights started turning on. but the connection light was off. i connected the phone to the ext again and i was online. i went to a few internet sites using my phone in the garage on the extender thru my router. how ever the ext traffic light was not on for the ewelink switches. it turned out i had to rest them and get them the connect thru the extender. wow what a trip.
anyway to test that i unplugged all of them and plugged in one at a time and the traffic light came on and then it went off after each one was unplugged. so i took the phone off airplane and did not use wifi and i could turn them all on and off. so i think they are now wll working thru the extender. i even turned the extender off and on and they worked. i did that for the power failures we get now and then.
i have one more that i'm going to do the same thing to and see if it connects and it did but it used the same name ext92 so i unplugged the pc and it connected. so the both must use the same id.

Setting them with the same ssid doesn't make them a mesh extender. They don't have the built in roaming protocols so devices don't know which device to connect to.
And 2.4ghz is sensitive to interference. so if a device disconnects from the extender, it might end up trying to connect back to the router and vice versa.
You're using the lowest grade devices possible and trying to make them work as a mesh. It'll have stability issues
thanks but for what i need i'm not going to buy mesh devices. all i need to do is turn the garage heater on now and then in the winter and now and then the garage camera goes offline and has to be rebooted. i do not have to connect the phone or anything else.thanks
