New router - still dead spots

I just bought a Nighthawk X6S AC4000 Tri-band Wi Fi Router and installed it to my Frontier Fios Modem. Moved both to top of cabinet, (from inside bottom) in front corner of house because that's where the Frontier cable is so can't move to center of house. My wi-fi signal is stronger but the upstairs back bedroom and downstairs back room (kitchen) had very little improvement. I want to put a smart tv in the back bedroom to at least stream. I have a google home nest I'd like to stream food network on in the kitchen.

I have a TP Link RE300 I had tried before that did nothing, hence the Netgear purchase, apparently it won't work with Netgear products. I don't know if it makes a differnce but my home is a 1907 2 story, high ceiling, wood structure and the kid next door has video games on 20 hours a day.

Any suggestions? Is there another extender I can get to help with the back room problems? Should I return this router and buy a different one? I'm not very techie but I'm trying. Thanks so much for any help. Can't call for physical help in this time of isolation. Be safe all, Jett

A newer router isn't necessarily going to provide further coverage. Reason why is they're limited in how much power they can broadcast with by the FCC.

Your best router is to optimize placement or add an range extender.

I'd recommend moving the router to the middle of the home if possible.  I know you said you cant but sometimes, paying someone $50 to run a cable/line is a better option than buying an extender as it'll work long term.

Reason why is that routers are omnidirectional. Meaning the broadcast in basically a circle. If you're router is on one side of the home, basically half the broadcast isn't covering the home.

And the RE300 should work. Try and set it up using the browser method and not the app/tether instructions. You also might have to disable its mesh function. But you can try it.

Thanks so much. Talked with Frontier today and improved signal when they disabled wifi from modem. She also suggested moving to center room but also thought an additional plug in the wall extender upstairs might help get the signal to the back room. This is an turn of the century solid wood and lathe wall house with brick chimneys so not surprised dead spots. Do you think that would help and if so which specific device. I had previously bought a tp-link that did nothing then the $300 nighthawk.

I would try contacting tp-link to get the extender working. Its a pretty good extender to pair with your router
