only one band connects to the internet

wifi externder has always worked fine. we have just changed internet provider and installed new router. Did a factory reset on the AC1200 wifi extender. Both bands ext2 and ext 5 appear to be set-up through the netgear page with the same matching passwords but devices can only connect using the ext2 band.

ext 5 band fails with the message "failed to obtain an IP address"

any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

thanks

What router are you connecting it to?

What firmware is on the extender?

maybe something was mistyped, have you tried a factory reset and reinstall again?

And I rarely recommend this, but did you try setting up using wps? Sometimes this does work well.

Hi, Thanks for the suggestions. The router is Vodafone.

I have updated the firmware to the latest version 1.0.0.54 which made no difference, still only band 2 no band 5.

tried to link to router using wps and now cannot cannot connect at all with either band. the wifi on the laptop now keeps asking for the network key which i enter and then it just keeps asking for the key again.

feels like we are going backwards.

        1. Vodafone is a company. Its like a mechanic asking what car you're wanting repaired and saying "ford". It doesn't help. What model is it?

        2. If wps caused issues, factory reset and reinstall again using the installation assistant. i don't usually recommend the wps method but its always worth a shot.
