Pick a plug turns off after roommate powers on his TV

Hello,

My netgear wifi extender, PLW 1000 v2, keeps tripping since a week. It works fine, the pick a plug led is red, but all I wanted is stable internet, and I got it thanks to this wifi extender.

But when my roommate gets home,  he turns on the TV, his laptop (close to my wifi extend netgear adapter - which is connected to internet through the cable into the router - ) my netgear connection first gets real real slow for 20 seconds and than just stops and it says there is no IP configuration.

Everytime I wake up, it works fine, like nothing happened. Resetting the stuff also does not work, the pick a plug led just stays off, and the next morning no problems what so ever.

How can my internet get screwed if somebody else turns on the power of some other electronical devices?

I can get on my normal wifi network without any problems, it's just not as stable and a little slower as my netgear network.

Because the pick the plug light was red, it ment the connection was not too great. When my roommate booted up his chromecast, which runned on wifi too, it slowed down my wifi instantly a bit, and that caused my wifi extender to shut down.

I got it placed now closer to the router and it works without problems.
