Problem setting up WNR614 as Wifi Repeater / Range Extender
I recently had to reset my r7000 nighthawk router - when I did the extender won't connect - I have tried with both an ethernet cable and mywifiext.net. Other suggestions?

Did you do a factory reset of your R7000? If so, the reset will have reverted the R7000 to its factory configured Wi-Fi settings. You will need to change the Wi-Fi settings to whatever they were before the reset. Once you do that, the extender should work. Or else change the extender to work with the new Wi-Fi settings.

I did reset to factory - but mywifiext.net will not pick up the new or old settings on the extender?

Can you confirm that you reset the R7000 to factory defaults?
I didn't understand what did you meant by "mywifiext.net will not pick up the new or old settings on the extender". Visiting mywifiext.net will not cause the extender to automatically pick up the R7000's Wi-Fi settings.
If you have WPS enabled on the R7000, then you can use it to transfer the Wi-Fi settings to the extender, but that's different than visiting mywifiext.net.
Can you clarify what you tried to do?

I tried using the WPS feature on the R7000 but it will not connect that way – then I tried using an Ethernet cable when that didn’t work I went to mywifiext.net – but it says I have no connection. I’m frustrated

Sigh, more questions than answers.
How did you connect the Ethernet cable? Between a computer and the extender? Or between the extender and the R7000?
In order to set up the extender you need to connect a computer to it via either Ethernet or Wi-Fi. If you use Wi-Fi, then the computer needs to join the extender's Wi-Fi network. Only then will mywifiext.net stand any chance of working. If you join the R7000's Wi-Fi network, then mywifiext.net will probably not work.
