Roaming/Handoff between AC1200 and WNDAP360

We have a Wifi network in the 5GHz range with a single WNDAP360.

We use the ascom I62 WLAN Phones with good results.

Now we had to extend the coverage of the 5GHz network.

Sine we can't place a second WNDAP360 (due to missing network cables) we descided to use a range extender AC1200 for this.

This works fine, with the exception of the roaming/handoff.

When a handover occurs from the AC1200 to the WNDAP360 or vice versa, then we have a 3-5 second "silence" on the phone.

Most of the time it then continues to work, but sometimes the VOIP connection drops completely.

What do I have as options to provide seamless roaming/handoff without gap in the audio?

Would a second WNDAP360 configured as repeater improve the situation?

  • It all depends on the AP's (and clients). The AP's need to support seamless roaming, (SOHO hardware, not so much) but there can be issues with voice and WIFI roaming - not an easy task really. Here's an forum post that discusses it. Hope it helps (somewhat)..
