Same SSID or new SSID for range extender?

For a wifi range extender, is it preferable to use the SSID of the existing nerwork, or to create a new SSID for the extender? Thanks, -Doug

If the extender is intended only for non-mobile devices, I would go with a different SSID so that the devices do not attempt to connect to the primary WiFi system.

If the extender is intended to support mobile devices, it is more convenient to use the existing network SSID.

What extender is it? And router?

The newer specs like AX/AXE/BE are pushing for single ssid processes. It makes devices roaming/streaming/usage better as devices can switch between bands or access points as needed.

The reason I bring this up is that I've been pushing people to using the single ssid process and pick one they want longer term because then they don't have to swtich out 20+ IoT devices if they change routers or switch to single ssid solutions. Its a PITA to do right now when you have a lot of devices but its easier than 3 years down the roam when you have another 20 bulbs to change over.
