Security issue: Cannot disable OPEN network NETGEAR_EXT on EX6120
Hi,
I've just bought and setup the EX6120 but there is a bit of a problem. The OPEN wifi (without encryption) called NETGEAR_EXT is all the time enabled and I cannot find a way to switch it off. Even worse, this wifi has internet access without any authentication. In other words, anybody can connect to my ISP and use it.
How can I disable completely this open network once I've setup my netgear range extender?
Firmware Version: V1.0.0.46_1.0.29
cheers
So my above post made me realise that the NETGEAR_EXT has a different mac address than the two other ones ... I think it's someone else's wlan network. I reset the factory settings and during the setup, I notice that there are indeed two wlans with the same ssid. Mine being the 2nd one
airport -s | grep EXT NETGEAR_EXT a0:40:a0:6b:62:6c -60 11 Y DE NONE NETGEAR_EXT 14:59:c0:ad:52:05 -46 11 Y FR NONE
After the setup completes, the 14:59:c0:ad:52:05 is no longer visible.
On other words, I was accessing some else's wlan thinking that it was mine. Sorry about the confustion

have you tried logging into the extender and setting up a wifi password?
when you're connected to it go to:
mywifiext.net
go through your wireless settings to enable a password.
If this is failing, explain how/where its failing.
what firmware is the ex6120 on?

My FW version is V1.0.0.46_1.0.29
I did setup a (web access) password to access mywifiext.net but this does not pervent other clients from connecting to open the SSID and using internet.
If this is failing, explain how/where its failing.
well ... I can associate any device to the NETGEAR_EXT SSID without any PSK and start using my internet connection:
airport --getinfo agrCtlRSSI: -81 agrExtRSSI: 0 agrCtlNoise: -93 agrExtNoise: 0 state: running op mode: station lastTxRate: 117 maxRate: 144 lastAssocStatus: 0 802.11 auth: open link auth: none BSSID: a0:40:a0:6b:62:6c SSID: NETGEAR_EXT MCS: 0 channel: 11

HTTP/2 200I believe this is self explanatory, isn't it?

If it was self explanatory, we wouldn't be having this conversation. More details are better than "its open, I can connect to it". Where are you failing at changing/adding a wireless password. At what point when you access the extender and go to the wireless password section aren't you able to add/change it.
You stated you set an web access password to access mywifiext.net. That sounds like you changed the log in to the extender but not the wireless password setup. Page 20 of the manual has wifi settings. Go to these. it gives you the option of leaving the password same as router or changing it to your preference. What is failing at this point?
here's the manual?
