Setting Up Wireless Bridge

I'm trying to setup a wireless bridge between my main router (WNDR3700 - main floor) and my old one (WNR2000v2 - basement). I have no idea where to start...

All I want to do is have the WNDR3700 running directly from the modem with my WNR2000v2 picking up the signal downstairs, sharing the connectivity via ethernet with my desktop computer.

Is this at all possible?

If not-
I do have a USB wireless adapter for the desktop. The problem is that I want to get it on the N-band but the signal strength just isn't there compared to the G-band. Can I setup the WNR2000v2 to propagate the signal in the basement so the adapter gets a better connection?

and I'm sorry if this information was in any of the stickies above.. i tried but none of the links would open for me (almost as if the Netgear KBase is offline). any help would be appreciated as I know enough about this stuff to know that I have absolutely no idea when it comes to networking.

thanks.

  • sooo I'm just trying the whole wireless repeater thing right now.

right now my dual-band is broadcasting and I've got my WNR2000v2 plugged into 1 of the LAN ports (into another LAN port). I'm getting my usual network signal + a 'NETGEAR' signal, which I assume is from the router I'm trying to use as a repeater.

I went to 'wireless repeating' and tried to setup the WNR2000v2 and it didn't go well. I just put everything back to normal with the dual-band and turned the WNR2000v2 off. I'm guessing I may have to setup the dual-band router as a repeating base station first?

I'm just a little lost, ahah.
