Strange MAC Address Showing -- on "refresh" only!
I've been using the WNR 2000 for about two years now, no problems. I recently logged into the router to change the password for the the Wifi network, and when I checked the Attached Devices it shows a strange IP address and MAC address that definitely doesn't belong to any of the devices I own.
I know this because, after noticing the unknown device:
1. I changed the password twice, then changed the SSID and even setup a Wireless Card Access List to exclude any intruders
2. I reset the router to its factory settings
Even after doing all this the strange device keeps showing up. The strange part is that, if I click the Attached Devices tab, it shows only my laptop, as I would expect. It only shows the unknown device if I hit the "refresh" button. Consistently it shows the same IP address and MAC address:
IP:
32.49.55.44
Device Name:
0742520); b = hh(b, c, d, a, x[i+ 2], 23, -995338651);
MAC:
2C:20:61:2C:20:62
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

- Retired_MemberAre you using AT&T wireless for your ISP?
- jmizoguchiVirtuosoFYI.. This extender section and not for outer
WNR2000 is a router so for the next new thread post below
http://forum1.netgear.com/forumdisplay.php?f=32 - FairytailVirtuosoPlease verify what specific Model of WNR2000 you are having problems with.
- theLocust1313AspirantI've encountered the same issue. I noticed the problem after my data usage increased near/over my ISP's allowance over the past few months. Previously, I have not even received the "nearing your limit" warning from the ISP.
The IP and MAC addresses are not mine on refresh. They also change pretty quickly. After refreshing a few times over the course of a minute, several disappeared and new ones arrived. I've restored to factory, powered off/completely unplugged it many times, verified I have the latest router update, enabled only MAC addresses that are used in the household, and intentionally caused random and lengthy local outages by powering off the router. I have not disabled SSID broadcast, although that's a next step after a few more tests.
Looking for an explanation if it's normal or if it's abnormal. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! - dincheAspirantHi,
I have started expiriencing the same problem. Noticed it last night.
It only shows on the 2nd refresh but its really weird.
