Trying to establish a connection with WNCE2001
Hello all, first time poster...
I have been trying to connect a WNCE2001 to my home network so that I can provide a more consistent signal to my internet ready bluray player.
I am pretty new to this, so expect I am missing something in my approach.
1) disconnect the LAN cable from the back of the computer
2) plug in power and LAN from computer to WNCE2001
3) wait for 2 green lights (Power and LAN)
4) Start IE and go to the Netgear Wizard
5) Choose language
6) Choose network
7) Enter security... this is where my problem lies
No matter what I choose at this point, whether it be no security, or WEP, or any of the other choices I get the message that I should refer to question 3 of the set up guide 'make sure the LAN is seated correctly'. This happened every time for the first 15 times I tried to connect.
When I tried to do the same thing from my laptop I start the same process:
1) Switch off wireless connectivity
2) connect power and LAN between WNCE2001 and laptop
3) wait for 2 green lights
4) start IE....... nothing
All I get at this point is the message "IE cannot display the webpage - diagnose connection problems"
I am totally frazzled and have completely lost track of what I have tried at this point. I am simply repeating the same steps as previously and expecting some different outcome!
I am running Windows XP on a Motorola Surfboard and a Trendnet 11g wireless router.
Any help that could be offered would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

- uk2usaAspirantI should probably also say that when I try to run the wizard from the desktop and I get to the point where I am choosing my security, my Network Magic account info states that I should choose WPA Personal - but I do not see that in the list. I am totally confused!

- sabretoothApprenticePress and hold the reset pinhole in back for 30 seconds and try again. It's a really small hole.
- uk2usaAspirantThanks Sabretooth, pressed reset button for 30 seconds, tried again and got the same result. On the second try I got a message about moving the WNCE2001 closer to the network router... it was less than an inch away.
Is there a recommended option I should use if I should set security to WPA Personal? I do not see that in the list. - sabretoothApprenticeUse WPA2-AES for your encryption.
- jmizoguchiVirtuosoThis is how it should be setup
Windows 7
Plugs USB power adapter and plug provided ethernet cable to the WNCE2001
Once the Power LED is solid green, unit is "GOOD"
Open the browser and should open URL http://www.mywifiext.come/welcome.htm
Choose language
Hit next and it will go through status bar and look for "available" wireless network with following
SSID name
Channel
Security type
Signal Strength
It also includes "manually input my wireless SSID" for use who hides broadcasting of SSID
Choose your SSID and hit next
Provide your pass phrase and hit next
It will go through the status bar for connecting to the wireless router. After 1~2min it should come up with "You have successfully connected to wireless SSID NAME "
HIt finish. It will also ask you to save to your browser's favorites list. Close the the browser and open browser again
If you are using Win 7 it will ask your "network location" you can close or specify the type and save it - uk2usaAspirant@ Sabretooth - thank you for the confirmation of the security setting.
@ jmizoguchi - thanks for the process description. I am running XP, but it looks pretty similar.
I get as far as the 2 minute status bar, which completes to 100%, then gives me the LAN not seated correctly message. Not to miss the obvious, I did make sure that the LAN cable was positioned properly.
I intermittently get the message advising me to try again with the WNCE2001 closer to the router - each time it has been within inches of the router already. This is when I try to install it from my desktop.
When I put the WNCE2001 into my laptop to try from there I turn the wireless connectivity to 'off' as described in the set up info. Then plug in the WNCE2001 (LAN and USB Power), but unlike the desktop I cannot connect to mywifiext.com at all. It keeps giving me the message that the page cannot be displayed.
Thanks, I appreciate the support very much. From the reviews I have read I thought that this would be a 5 minute setup... I must have spent 4 hours on this by now :( - sabretoothApprenticeIt really shouldn't be that hard. I have the same unit working perfectly for almost a year now. Can you try another computer? If not, you may want to exchange it.

I only tested with single laptop and setup but I had not issues finding the mywifiext.com when ethernet cable is plugged in.
you may want to do is while wifi is OFF, shutdown the PC and power back on and try again - uk2usaAspirantOK, several more attempts yields the same results. I am seeing 100% signal strength when I choose my network. I get power and LAN confirmation lights on the WNCE2001. I can complete the process only as far as the 2 minute installation then I get the message about a type 3 error (incorrectly seated LAN cable) or the message to move the WNCE2001 closer to the router. I have tried rebooting the computer (both laptop and pc) with no luck. I am at a loss.
