Using the Netgear EX8000 with the Netgear R8000
Hello,
I've bought an EX8000 to provide extra wifi coverage in areas where wifi is weak.
I've connected the EX8000 to the R8000 and have gone through the configuration steps.
The R8000 has 3 separate 2.4G SSIDs and 3 separate 5G SSIDs.
When I went through the setup on the EX8000 it asks you to choose which wifi networks to choose to extend.
It looks like it will only extend 1 2.4G network and 1 5G network. Is this what other people think too? The manual doesn't state one way or another.
Can the EX8000 use wired ethernet for the backhaul? The manual doesn't state one way or another.
I was planning on putting the EX8000 in the garage using a wired connection to the R8000. The manual implies that the backhaul connection can only be done over wifi.
If that's the case, it is disappointing to me.

The triband extenders dedicated 1 of the 5ghz bands just for router----extender communtcation.
Reason it does this is standard single/dual band extenders have to use the same chip to go router----extender and then extender----device. And they can't do both at once so they take a 50% speed reduction off of what their picking up. The tribands don't take that 50% speed hit becaues of their dedicated backhaul. It also reduces latency.
when you were going through setup, you can select the 1 5ghz band and 1 2.ghz because it uses the 2.4ghz connection for failover if the 5ghz drops.
If you hardwire in the EX8000, you can utilize all 3 bands for usage. I've done it several times and it works great.
