wifi extender powerline av500

Can this be used with my comcast wifi modem/router.  If it can how do I make connection

Maybe this isn't the correct item.  Mother living in assisted living doesn't has a signal or very weak where she sits.  There is wifi in the hallway.  That is secured and we have the  password.
