WIFI extender wn1000rp connection problems, absolute junk

Had this little plug-in unit a few years now and initially tried to set it up but failed miserably and threw it in a drawer blaming my technical inability & that's where it stayed until recently, had a conservatory built on back of house and could not get wifi signal from router so thought I'd have another go at the wifi extender.

I can connect it to my router as it is listed as a connected device in my router settings (used both WPS method and wireless code to get to this stage), my laptop connects to extender but always states no network access or no internet. I can connect to it on initial set-up using mywifiext.net but as soon as set up is done and I'm told I'm connected but can no longer access mywifiext.net settings page just get told there's no internet connection. I've did set-up many times now with exactly same outcome, I'm just going around in circles with this piece of junk, can anyone help please?
