Thanks for the response.
When I select the 2gEXT or 5gEXT in the wifi choices (SSID?) on my iPhone, it shows the full (highest signal) wifi symbol up top, as if it's connected, however if I try loading a website or download email, nothing happens. I've reset the unit, changed unit locations, etc...

The wifi bars may not be a sign that it is connected – I am an iPhobe so don't know about iStuff – they may just show that it sees the wifi. Even if it is connected to that channel, you will need to login to that SSID using the password that you have set up in the extender.
The Netgear site does not recognise the Nighthawk X4 AC2200 as a model number. I suspect that you have the EX7300. The manual and stuff for this is here:

This shows how to setup the access password and suggests that you "Use the same WiFi password that you use for your WiFi router."
