Wifi range extender won't accept router password

I have a Netgear plug-in range extender V1H2 which has operated quite happily with my router since we switched provider over 12 months ago.

I switched both off during a holiday away from home.

On switching back on after my holiday the extender connected successfully to the router but now the extender will no longer recognise the router password when I select it from my imac.

It was only when the extender just identified on my mac as Netgear_ext that I pressed the router WPS connection button to re-establish the ISP user _ext which was then picked up correctly by my mac but demands a password to connect.

It should be using the same passphrase as your router network.

If it's not, then do the reset again, DON'T press WPS, and use the web setup.  Enter the extender network names and passphrases manually from the web ui.

  • Further to my earlier post just to be clear, when selecting the _ext connection shown as an available internet connection, instead of connecting directly, my i-mac demands a password before connecting, which when I enter it correctly states that it is invalid.

I have identified the IP address of the extender as advised on other community threads and fed this into my i-mac safari browser which accepts the address and then just freezes and does not open.

Not sure where to go from here.

Did you try resetting the extender and setting it up again?

Hi, Thanks for this, when I first switched on again after my holiday the extender just identified on my i-mac as Netgear_ext rather than with the ISP user details so I re-connected the router to the extender and it now identifies with the correct user_ext address, but I have not done a factory re-set if that is what you mean. Should I try that?
