wifi vs access point?
Hello, I have a wifi range extender since our cable Internet router is in the basement. We stream our tv upstairs and needed a stronger wifi signal to make it work better. No buffering. I set u...

Yes, set it up as an Access Point, if you can. This will allow the range extender to fully dedicate the Wi-Fi radio to servicing clients instead of relaying traffic between clients and the router.
If it's not practical to run an Ethernet cable far enough to where the extender needs to be, then you can use Powerline in place of Ethernet. IOW, set up a Powerline network, and plug your range extender into it.

Now, I made an access point for my extender. I moved it upstairs and now it can not connect to the router. What's the problem? Do I still need it as an wifi extender too? This is getting ridiculous! Hope to hear from you soon, because I am getting frustrated.
Thanks!

Update: I made it as an extender and now it connects to the router. Go figure. Wonder why it doesn't connect to the router as an access point? However, I don't think the access point works now. I tried live tv streams, still buffers and freezes. The "other" streams work without any problems. Wonder why live tv has so many problems.

Did you enable Access Point mode before wiring it to the router?
The Live TV server could be overloaded.

I think I plugged the Ethernet cord into router before access point mode. Due to the fact that www.mywifiext.net wouldn't connect to the Internet without it. Why would it say it has made an access point and not connected to the router? Doesn't make sense to me.
The live tv streams work flawlessly every where else in the house. Which makes me wondering why? The bedroom is right above the modem downstairs using wifi. Downstairs is hooked up to the modem. So, thinking if I had an wifi extender in the living room, that would make it work. Not!
Thanks for the help!
