WN2000RPT ext will not connect to Netgear router

I should add that i ran a command prompt ipconfig /all when connected to the extender via wireless AND ethernet. Neither of the IP addresses (169.254.234.241 or 169.254.124.180) worked when i tried to use them to access the extender.
