WN2500RP broken
Hello, my WN2500RP is broken. Among other things, component Q3 (marking: F42A) is broken and I would like to replace it. Can anyone here tell me exactly what this component is? Best regards
I have same problem after it got moist. ive been using this device for maybe ten years on a tall pole and the only protection has been a ziplock bag upside down so the rain doesnt go inside. Finally a creature or a big pine cone moved it
same boot problem, orange light always on
sometimes it switched off on its own

Good god. That's the jankiest "weatherproofing" I've heard of in a long time. Totally reminds me of the beer can shower head. And then I'm picturing a nut chaser messing with it or even causing the moisture. I'm impressed it lasted this long.
Netgear doesn't make a current version but there are pretty solid outdoor rated extenders out there. Might be time to actually invest in one for that purpose 🙂
So I soldered the component in. There is now 1.2 V at the output (pins 4+6). Unfortunately, the extender is still not working correctly. The diodes light up as follows (all continuous):
D909, WPS: off
D904, 903, 902, 901, LAN ports: green
D910, connection to WLAN device: green
D916, Link Rate 5 GHz: red
D907, Link Rate 5 GHz: off
D915, Link Rate 2.4 GHz: red
D905, Link Rate 2.4 GHz: orange+green
D906, Power: orangeA button reset does not change anything.
So the troubleshooting goes into the next round.
If it's been out in that condition for that log, since the board is multi layer, I presume, corrosion may have taken place, even if it was covered, some conditions probably got in and slowly corroded the board and layers in between.
if you really want another one, might find a cheap one here on amazon as I see there are some for under 20$
Or pick up an EX7700 from Fleabay. they're around $40 and have significantly higher performance. The EX8000 is around $60. The dedicated backhaul in those 2 devices are a game changer for improved speeds and latency. And still reasonable priced. But I'd probably invest in a weatherproof enclosure that's a little higher rated than a ziploc bag 🙂
