how can I know which firmware is currently there? and can u please tell me how I can log into the extender and update the firmware.

You will want to log into the extender by going to www.mywifiext.net then under maintenance you should see firmware upgrade. Here you can select a file from your pc to upgrade the firmware you will want to download the firmware before hand which I linked the page below.
