WN604 cannot connect to router
I have purchased a WN604 access point to provide wireless networking in my home. I have a cable modem (Cisco DPC3825) from my ISP (Mediacom) that works fine as a router/gateware for wired connections.
My plan is to connect the WN604 to my cable modem as a wireless access point (not as a router) so I can use my laptop wirelessly from another room. The problem is that I have configured my WN604 as a DHCP client, but it is not connecting successfully to the network.
What can I do to connect the WN604 to my network so I can use it as a wireless access point?

- jmizoguchiVirtuosoDishing out private ip then should work
- brianbernsAspirantSorry, I'm not sure what you mean by "dishing out private ip". Can you clarify? Thanks.
- jmizoguchiVirtuosoPrivate ip is private ip
192.x - non public routqblw ip - brianbernsAspirantOK, but what device is dishing out these private IPs? And how would that fix the problem I'm having with the access point?

Your cable modem/gateway !
If does not do DHCP server then will NOT work
You need a router - brianbernsAspirantOK, I will return the access point and buy a wireless router instead. However, I still don't understand why this is necessary. If I connect a PC to the modem/gateway, the upstream DHCP server assigns it an IP address. But if I connect the Netgear access point to the modem/gateway, the DHCP server won't assign it an IP address? Why?

What IP.. I can't tell you ANY unless you show ip address. first three octet - brianbernsAspirantIP address of a PC connected to the cable modem, assigned by DHCP: 173.25.188.xxx
Subnet mask: 255.255.248.0 - jmizoguchiVirtuosoSounds like public ip to me
You need a router - brianbernsAspirantSwitching to a router worked. Thanks for your help.
