WNR1000v3 Speed caped through router wired! 9.5mbps max. Please HELP!
I am pretty much at wits end. So here the story.
About 4 days ago I noticed my internet speed running slow on the ethernet cable straight to the back of my computer and testmy.net showed I was getting only 9.5 mbps speed. So naturally I figured my old netgear router was just dying and bought a brand new shiny NetGear G54/N150 Wireless Router Model WNR1000v3 fully updated. I get my new router replace everything and plug it in. I still get 9.5 mbps. After spending 5 hours with my roommate looking over every setting and researching the problem I am at a loss.
Here is my setup. I have xfinity comcast modem, it acts as a modem/router and has wireless. It splits out to many devices, 2 computers and an xbox 360/Wii. It also goes into my Netgear Router. My router then splits to my computer and my xbox one. Both of them get only 9.5mbps max. I have tested it many times over multiple days.
Now this is strange to me because I have run this exact setup in 4 different places I have lived and I have never had a problem. My internet max speed is tested at 55mbps. When I remove my router and go straight from the wall my speed is 55mbps.
- I have tried turning off wireless but that didn't do anything
- My NAT is open under the WAN setup
- My LAN1 port says 100M/Full
- In my QoS setup my WMM is enable but turning it off did nothing
- In the LAN setup my router is using the Router as a DHCP Server but when I turned it off it was completely unusable and had to be factory reset
-Under the internet setup everything is set to default.
-I updated my Realtek ethernet driver and set the speed and duplex value to 100mbps Full
I really don't know what else to try. I don't know why my Router is slowing my speed from 55mbps down to 9.5mbps wired! I really could use some help!

- PhantomebbAspirantsorry this is in the wrong spot it is now posted in the right spot but i don't know how to delete it.
- Retired_MemberSo the wall connection you refer to is connected to Comcast modem/router and delivers 55 which is correct?
One problem is you have what's called a double Nat, you shouldn't connect a router to another. You should buy a gigabit switch or a Access point if you need additional wireless coverage. - PhantomebbAspirantI have used this setup, or double NAT, for more than 5 years and never had a problem. So I don't believe thats the problem here.
