169.254.... address showing up in my Netgear Genie network map?

I've noticed that I get a device on one of my network maps from time to time.. with an IP address that starts with 169.254... does this mean someone is trying to login/hack my network? I was told that it's APIPA and I don't need to worry.

thx

  • Hi mwiederecht,

    1. What is the version of the Genie app that you have installed?

    2. Does the issue persist when viewing the Network Map on another device (iOS, Android, PC, another Mac)?

    3. Have you tried re-installing the Genie app?

      Hi mwiederecht,

      1. The device is named as "Matts-iMac.home". Is that the name of your Mac computer?

      2. Judging by the screenshot, it looks like the Network Map is still loading. Does it display the same thing after it loads?

      3. Is your Mac computer connecting to the router via wireless or via Ethernet (wired)?

      4. Does that same device also show up on the attached devices page on the router UI?

      Regards,
