Access point WNDR4500 help
I am trying to configure a WNDR4500 as an access point. I tried the same thing with an RN6250 with the same results.
Configuration:
network 192.168.0.x
gateway 192.168.0.1 This is a Servegate router. It has a www facing address, and it has 151.164.11.201 listed as it's DNS.
I have DHCP enable to give out addresses in the 150-160 range. I have tried this hardcoded with the same result.
I hard reset the WNDR4500
I connect the WNDR4500 to a laptop, and can get to the configuration page at 192.168.1.1.
I pick configure manually, and log in again when it tells. me.
I only have a connection between LAN1 and a laptop at this time.
I leave everything default, and try to follow the directions at https://kb.netgear.com/20927/How-do-I-change-my-NETGEAR-router-to-AP-mode-after-setting-it-up and have no luck.
I go to advanced setup wireless settings, and enable AP mode, and connect a cable to my existing network using the internet jack, leaving get address dynamically checked.
I do a netscan on my network, and see that addresses 153 and 154 show up.
using the laptop I log into 192.168.0.153 and the home page finally shows
internet not connected, number of attached devices 4
When I go there, I see the gateway 0.1, two computers 0.11,0.49, a printer and my laptop.
If i go to advanced it shows the lan port as
192.168.0.153
the gateway as 192.168.0.1
the dns 151.164.11.201 (which is the dns held on my gateway), though I normally force my computers to use 8.8.8.8 and 4.4.4.4.
It shows the alternate dns as 151.164.1.8
So now I go to administration and do a router update to see if I can get to the internet from the router..... it just can't connect to the internet.
Basic home shows no internet, even though every computer on the network currently has internet access.
What is going on here?
I had the same behavior from a RN6250.
If I hard code the addresses to some number like 0.148 and the gateway as 192.168.0.1 and 8.8.8.8, and 4.4.4.4, or 151.164.11.201 or whatever, the behavior is exactly the same.
I can connect from a smart phone, but have no internet.

WNDR4500, WNDR4500v2, or WNDR4500v3? Look for "Model" on the product
label.> [...] I have tried this hardcoded with the same result. [...]
You "tried" _what_, exactly, with _what_ "hardcoded"?

> and have no luck."try to follow" or "have no luck" is not a useful problem
description. It does not say what you did. It does not say what
happened when you did it. As usual, showing actual actions (commands)
with their actual results (error messages, LED indicators, ...) can be
more helpful than vague descriptions or interpretations.
Again, visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your (actual) model
number, and look for Documentation. Get the User Manual (at least).
Look for "access point". The details might depend on which hardware
version you have.> When I go there, I see the gateway 0.1, two computers 0.11,0.49, a
> printer and my laptop. When you "go" _where_? You're talking about using a web browser?
What are those numbers, partial IP addresses, or what? What's the IP
address of your (unspecified) "my laptop"? And its gateway and DNS
settings?> So now I go to administration and do a router update to see if I can

above. A clear description of what _does_ happen would be more useful
than a vague description of what does _not_ (or "can't") happen. What happens if you try to access the Internet from your
(unspecified) "my laptop"? Various possible firmware bugs might cause
problems with an automatic firmware update, even if everything else
works properly.> Basic home shows no internet, even though every computer on the network

laptop" (or other devices which are connected to the
WNDR4500[vX]-as-WAP)? When configured as a wireless access point, I
wouldn't bet on the WNDR4500[vX] "Internet" indicators being accurate.> If I hard code the addresses to some number like 0.148 [...]
_Which_ "the addresses"? Please specify complete IP addresses.

"connect" to what? Compare this statement with "every computer on
the network currently has internet access", above. At least one of us
is confused.- wcalifasProdigy
disable the dhcp on the wndr4500 and then assign the IP of the wndr4500 192.168.0.500 or something like that. and try it then.

advice from anyone who suggests including "500" anyplace in an IPv4
address. It's not well thought-out.
